NextHop Case Study NextHop Technologies is the leader in providing powerful, proven IP routing software solutions. NextHop develops and markets network routing software solutions, partnering with customers and the industry to empower innovation in networking. Its flagship product, GateD, is the de facto standard for vendor-neutral routing software. The Situation NextHop’s development environment is unique in that their customers procure their networking sourcecode as IP, for later integration into end products. As a result, each customer has their own unique requirement for the IP, which presented a formidable challenge in revision control and management. The typical process before Calavista and devEDGE involved delivering comprehensive bug fixes on a particular IP product to the customer, but not understanding which particular files were affected by the bug fixes, whether specific bug fixes were not an issue to the customer (i.e., don’t change the code!), or how it would impact their application/product once implemented. Their customer solution was simply take-it-all. The Solution Calavista’s devEDGE immediately solved NextHop’s dilemma. devEDGEis deployed as a layer above CVS and Bugzilla and integrates seamlessly. This allows an IP provider like NextHop to:
Other Benefits The code management solution devEDGE brought to NextHop had immediate and powerful results. No doubt as NextHop’s IP development process progresses, they will take advantage of its many other features, including…. Why PostX chose Calavista and devEDGE The bottom line of why NextHop chose devEDGE is simple. It solved their customer’s problem, immediately. They also chose Calavista because of the minimal impact to their existing development processes. As Tim Bean, VP of Engineering explained: “Experience with code management tools is that it is an extremely disruptive process, requiring at a minimum 2 to 4 weeks to implement…but Calavista said it would take ONE DAY….and they were right, it took ONE DAY to implement!” |
