Lawrence Waugh

Lawrence co-founded Calavista in 2001 with the vision of helping companies write better software.  Observing the high failure rate of software projects, he was frustrated by the assertion of many executives that software was “just hard.”  Lawrence’s unique background combines multiple degrees from MIT and Stanford with a rich, practical experience in software delivery, together with the pragmatic and results-oriented perspective of a naval officer and carrier pilot. These collective experiences left him convinced that the low success rates were not a given – but rather, that high quality software could be written both quickly and consistently.  For the better part of 2 decades, Lawrence has focused almost exclusively on that vision, helping drive Calavista’s pioneering work in Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and tools development.  His work has led to 3 patents, and helped Calavista achieve a success rate that’s nearly 3 times the industry average.

Prior to Calavista, Lawrence worked for several Enterprise Software companies, including Trilogy Software,, Agillion, and Aviri.  He’s held development and consulting roles ranging from individual contributor to Vice President of Engineering.  Since founding Calavista, he has helped over 75 companies successfully deliver their software products on budget, and on time.  An Austin resident for over 20 years, Lawrence currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Austin Technology Council, as well as several other businesses and non-profits.
